Use I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me.
–John 10:14
An Episocpal Ministry was founded in Silver City in 1873, and was named The Church of the Good Shepherd by the Rev. Edward Silver Cross in 1889. Land was bought for the church at it’s present location in 1891, the cornerstone being laid in June of 1892. The first services were held in the present church in the fall of 1893.
In 1943, The Church of the Good Shepherd became a parish. A complete history of the Church, The Centennial History of the Church of the Good Shepherd, was written in 1991 by Jean W. Henderson, wife of a former rector.
The Church of the Good Shepherd continues to hold services in the beautiful, historic, red brick building. You will find the nave welcoming and warm with memorial stained glass windows on all sides providing a calming atmosphere.
